Introduction

A modular synthesizer is a type of electronic synthesizer built from separate modules that can be connected together to create custom sound synthesis systems. In modular systems, oscillators are often referred to as voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs) because their pitch can be controlled using voltage signals from keyboards or sequencers.

Filters

Filters shape the tone of the oscillator by removing or emphasizing certain frequencies. The most common type in modular systems is the voltage-controlled filter (VCF).

Low-pass filters are widely used because they allow lower frequencies to pass while attenuating higher frequencies, producing the characteristic subtractive synthesis sound.

Amplifiers
